Sending Estimates / Invoices to individuals, not companies
Wanted to get a rough show of hands from the hardcore Cashboard users out there. How many of you have ever wanted to assign or send an estimate / invoice / project to an individual, instead of a company? Is anyone frustrated that you have to create an entire “company” record if you want to invoice a single person? I’m doing some preliminary work that could overhaul companies and people in a major way, including the ability to assign a person to multiple companies. Let me know your thoughts… |

I haven’t ever needed to invoice an individual instead of a company, but I can see that the need may arise sometime down the track. |

This type of workflow seems more prevalent in the non-tech industries. For instance, architects, electricians, home contractors… |

Some of my clients are artists and it would be nice to treat them as individuals. And occasionally I find myself doing a small piece of work for an individual at a client company: it would be good to be able to invoice them (and be paid) on-line. |

This would be fantastic, as about 95% of my clients are individuals and sometimes the hassle to make a company for them and then add them as people makes it too tedious to work with. +1 for this. |

I haven’t had occasion to send to individuals outside of a company, but I do have a few people who work for multiple companies. So – I would appreciate the ability to assign an individual to multiple companies. |

I have some individual clients but I treat them as companies. On a side note: The one thing I have noticed about people, associated to a company, is that I have to assign one unique email address to one person/company. That is frustrating because sometimes I have people that have multiple companies and use the same address for all of their companies. I don’t know if that belongs here but thought I would pipe in! |
Definitely something I’m evaluating as a part of this process as well. Right now we have a lot of code that is based on what company a person belongs to – in order to show them projects and things on their side of the UI. All of that would need to be reworked if we go this route and allow one person to belong to multiple companies. |
I would say about 25% of my clients don’t have a company name, so yes, there is a need for this. |
I would also like to be able to invoice individuals rather than companies. I haven’t yet had a situation of needing to apply one person to two companies, but I can see the advantage of that flexibility. |
