Allow non-admin users to manage tasks

I have added a subcontractor to my account, however I find the existing permissions limiting. I would rather this person not be an admin, yet I would like to give them additional privileges. Specifically I want this user to be able to add, edit, and close tasks in any project he/she has access to. Almost like a project manager. In my case, only one person will be tracking time and completing tasks in a project. Rather than me having to manually go in and enter tasks all the time, it would be more efficient if that person could do so. Thanks |

I second this. I just added a sub and ran into this. At a minimum, I expected him to be able to view the project and estimate but it turns out he can’t even see this info. I sent him a copy of the estimate, but I might make changes to the project directly and there’s no way for me to PDF a copy of the project tasks that I can see. Looks like I’ll have to copy/paste into an e-mail any changes that I make to the projects, as well as budget updates on individual tasks. Ugh. |

Both great suggestions, and have been considered from the get-go. The problem is making the permission system easy and straightforward, yet flexible enough to work for everyone’s needs. Some people want these project “managers” to be able to edit things, but not see dollar amounts, etc. My general philosophy is to sleep on changes that can have a major design impact rather than move on something swiftly and get it very wrong. The only reason this has kept getting pushed back is because I haven’t come up with a great way to accommodate the majority (or even define what the majority is). |

There are probably many options that we might not all agree on, but at a bare minimum I think we can all agree that somebody working on the project should be able to view the project tasks. Since a worker can’t possibly log time against a project whose tasks they cannot see. As I’ve said, there’s no easy way to send them a copy of the project tasks either since there is no way to PDF the project (please correct me if I’m wrong). I’d suggest showing the project & tasks but hiding everything else until you find a good way to deal with the permissions model. |
